I grabbed this book when it was offered for free on Kindle a few days ago, thinking it looked like something fun for my 8 year old daughter. I'm so glad I did. She read it in two sittings and absolutely LOVED it. We homeschool, and as she was beginning her book report today, I decided I'd read it too, and see if I could put together anything in addition to the book report. Now brace yourself for this ... I cried. Yes, yes, you're wondering why on earth this 32 year old woman cried during a children's book! I know, I know. But honestly, I just loved it. I was really able to relate to the story and the lessons in character. I can't wait for my daughter and I to continue on this journey with Egg! I've just purchased the second book in the series, which I will be reading first this time, as I want to create a homeschool lesson for it ahead of time. For any other homeschoolers out there, this is a great story to help with character building, competition (and winning or losing gracefully), etc. It also had some great vocab words, so we'll be doing a little with those as well.Product details

Fun read and if my girls were still young or my granddaughter was a little younger I would be buying the whole series for them to read. Might get them just to enjoy myself. They are supposed to have dragons and sea serpents and.........
It was a very good book for so many reasons! There was a constant theme of self improvement, love of friends and family, and enough adventure to keep it all interesting!
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. But I loved it! Since it is prequel to a series, it is a lead-in to the other books. It has an interesting storyline that makes me want to read the other books in the series. No spoilers here, but, when I got to the end of this book and what happened to the characters there, I was pulled into the story so far that I couldn't wait to find out what happens in the "future" in the next book.The book has wonderful illustrations to go with the story.
First off I liked the book. It had many interesting aspects to the story. The world that was created and discribed was something that i would have like to learn more about. the pictures were beautiful and kept me wanting to read more. The detail i felt was lacking and it read like a book where the series was writen first and this was the book they wrote after to make the series make sence. I enjoyed the book dont get me wrong but i had no idea that it was the start to a 12 book series. Yikes! I am contimplating if i really want to continue reading more or not. I have so many questions that I want answers to that i probably will find myself reading the rest just to get the answers. Keep this in mind if you start reading this series that it is the "Prequel" and the series is 12 books worth.
The story was amusing, but very juvenile and shallow, and fairly predictable. I have enjoyed many YA novels, but this one eventually lost my interest and I didn't bother to finish it. I suspect it would be better appreciated by a younger reader, but I don't recommend this for anyone looking for complexity or depth in their reading material.
Flying girl is an amazing start to a series I really enjoyed the world especially combining sea serpents dragons sci fi and fantasy as well as real life lessons. In addition the illustrations are so beautiful! My only complaint is just the way the kindle edition was combined and because of that I give this 4 out of 5 stars
While I wasn't thoroughly in love with this book, I did especially enjoy the relationship between Egg and her Grammy. Egg is a little girl and was struggling with an obsession to win at everything she did and she was downright negative if she didn't. It took her Grammy to make her understand that she could not and should not always be a winner and that hating those who beat her didn't work. I loved this Grammy who gently helped Egg understand this concept. The book is worthy for just this small portion of the book. It's delightful to see Egg grow into a helpful young girl (and loving).
